Democrat or Democratic?

Over the last several years I have heard people like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh refer to the Democratic Party as the Democrat Party. So annoying! It seems to be a way to belittle the side they revile. Perhaps they are annoyed that the word democratic, referring to a democracy, has positive connotations to many people worldwide.

DEMOCRAT is a noun: Barack Obama is a Democrat. Jerry Brown is a Democrat. I am a Democrat.

DEMOCRATIC is an adjective: Barack Obama, Jerry Brown and I belong to the Democratic Party. The Democratic convention was held in Philadelphia. Name some countries that were founded on democratic principles.
